Flowers Blooming In Our Throats (dir. Eva Giolo, 2020)

"Fever Dreams," a follow-up to "Turning, Turns," is another screening cycle, hosted by Belvedere 21's Blickle Kino, curated by Maggessi/Morusiewicz. This cycle turns to Ursula Blickle Video Archive and its early focus on the democratizing quality of the video format. Inspired by Derrida’s seminal “Archive Fever” (1995), the cycle creates a space for intergenerational dialogue between works made in the 1980s–early 2000s and contemporary film-based positions, finding resonances between their diverse aesthetic strategies, socio-political contexts, and dream scenarios. The cycle featured three screenings: 

• “Raumfahrt(en)” (23.05.2024), which departed from Renate Kordon’s homonymous stop-motion films and reflected on how animation techniques could be used to connect and expand diverse spaces and times. Kordon’s works served the role of abstract departure points for more contemporary artistic his*herstories, starting at one’s own body, at an old memory, or at a barely remembered place;  featuring: Passepartout , Buntes Blut, Raumfahrt (dir. Renate Kordon, 1983, 1985, 1989), What's at the bottom? (dir. Liz Rosenfeld, 2021), Mis amigos son los passaros (dir. Vitória Monteiro, 2023), Grandmamauntsistercat (dir. Zuza Banasińska, 2024), Apiyemiyekî? (dir. Ana Vaz, 2019); 
• “Pre-Images” (11.07.2024), which was built around the concept of "pre-image," framed here as a temporal disorientation that rhymes with the complex relationship between what Bakhtin defines fabula and syuzhet; the screening was dedicated to the artistic-research process of translating this relationship onto film language, as demonstrated by the selected positions from the Ursula Blickle Video Archive; the starting point to this screening's conceptualization was Pre-Image (Blind as the Mother Tongue) (dir. Hiwa K, 2017); also featuring: Delay Time (dir. Helmut Rainer, 1986), Snapshot (dir. Helmut Mark, 1985), Trophäen des Alltags I (dir. Ella Raidel, 1997), Aus (dir. Skot, 1998), There Is So much I Can Tell You (dir. Karl Kowanz, 1988), 15 One (dir. Rudolf Müller, 1981), and Inszenierung (dir. Robert Woelfl and Lydia Lindner, 1987);
• "Moving Picture(s)" (14.12.2024), which departed from Linda Christannel’s homonymous work and invited the audience into an encounter with a series of films engaging with the mediatic rhythm of the moving image; the featured films demonstrated travel between the public and the private sphere, offering glimpses into intimate scenes between friends and family members, chance encounters between newly-made acquaintances, and snapshots of the filmmakers’ working process; featuring: Double 8 (dir. Christiana Perschon, 2016), Rebels (dir. Christina Stuhlberger, 2022), Moving Picture (dir. Linda Christanell, 1995), Cuts (dir. Chloë Delanghe, 2023), Chantal in Green (dir. Rebecca Jane Arthur, 2023), Flowers Blooming In Our Throats (dir. Eva Giolo, 2020).
