This publication is a remix of an existing text, the text-based component of a PhD-in-Practice artistic-research project that I defended in the summer of 2020 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. The project’s agenda is laid out in its lengthy title: “Remixing Polish Film History: Self-Contaminations, Queer Interventions, Affective Conjurings.” In short, I promised to “remix,” i.e. to bring together, recombine, and alter multiple footage samples from the vast field of “Polish film history,” and to mix them with other material, which, in the case of this project, includes fragments and snippets of academic texts, films from other fields and genres, comic books, personal anecdotes, archives, and memories, songs, techno beats, and situations, be it autobiographical, fictional, and source-based.
This publication is prepared and published as part of the exhibition No Final Version (09.09.–21.10.2022), kindly hosted and facilitated by Marilyn Volkman at ENTRE Vienna (entrevienna.com) and curated by Guilherme Pereira Maggessi de Oliveira. The exhibition and the publication are funded by BMKÖS — Bundesministerium für Kunst, Kultur, öffentlicher Dienst und Sport.
