Playlists are gif-able audiovisual collages that result from my ongoing query into audio and film/video footage. Sometimes incidental and at other times oriented around a specific project, they all share a similar duration, one that would fit a 90-minute cassette tape or, what matters only at times, its two 45-minute sides. This arbitrary format references, to an extent nostalgically, the way I used to program and listen to music during my teenage years, when most of it I would record on cassette tapes from the radio. The tracks that would be sequenced arbitrarily, depending on radio broadcast and my recording times, would then ossify into mixtapes, which I would listen to countless times, while pretending to be asleep, late at night. There's a similar element of randomness to those playlists, as they don't derive from a pre-established conceptual plan. What matters here is the ongoing practice of listening and watching, selecting, and editing music tracks and video samples together, while looking for loops, rhymes, and catchy encounters.
